A contemporary modern abstract tapestry titled "Environmental Sculptures" by Argentinian artist Calman Shemi. Hand signed and titled on verso with an annotation of 7/9. Circa 1980s. Shemi is a life long artist who has worked in many mediums such as sculpture, fiber, and painting. The artist developed his own mix of fiber work and painting in which he called soft painting and this tapestry piece is a great example of such. A sublime mix of colors, shapes, and textures. Includes original Certificate of Authenticity. From a private collection. Dimensions: 52 inches tall, 66 inches long, and 0.5 inches deep. In very good vintage condition.Â
Calman Shemi (1939- ) is a contemporary abstract expressionist painting known for âÂÂlacquer paintings,â âÂÂsoft painting,â and âÂÂwindow paintings.â In 1961, at age 20, Shemi had the opportunity to study under the German-Israeli sculptor Rudi Lehmann, one of the pioneers of sculpture in the Middle East. In the last two decades, he has held more than 70 solo exhibitions in the United States, Belgium, Spain, Germany, Japan, France, and the Middle East. Sheni has shared with the world various forms of sculptures and paintings. His artworks can be seen on display in many public places and private collections around the globe.
