Allan D'Arcangelo (1930-1998) was an American artist and printmaker, best known for his paintings of highways and road signs that border on pop art and minimalism, precisionism and hard-edge painting, and surrealism. His subject matter is distinctly American and evokes, at times, a cautious outlook on the future of this country. By the early 1970s, DâÂÂArcangelo had established himself as a seminal part of the New York art scene alongside figures such as Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol. D'Arcangelo's work is found in the permanent collections of major museums and other public institutions worldwide including the Art Institute of Chicago, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., and the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, among others.
